About Me
I am a DONA trained birth doula, working towards certification. When I was pregnant, I became a pregnancy, childbirth, and baby nerd! I read books, spent hours googling different topics, and attended extensive birth preparation classes with my husband. It was during this time that I first heard of doulas. Hiring a doula helped my husband and I both feel confident going into the birth and she was a tremendous help during my long labor.
I realized that my interest in birth continued after my son was born and that the work of a doula matched many of my own aptitudes. I trained with DONA International in February 2011. I love helping women and their partners feel prepared, peaceful, strong, and cared for during their childbirth experience.
My mothering interests include breastfeeding, baby wearing, and cloth diapering. Other interests include spending time with my husband and son, singing, bargain hunting, reading, and crocheting.
My formal education was completed at Temple University where I earned a B.M. in music education/voice. I taught vocal and general music in the WashingDC and Maryland public was a public school music teacher.

My philosophy
I believe that both pregnancy and childbirth are a natural part of life, and that women's bodies were designed to do an excellent job growing and birthing their babies. I strive to take an open-minded approach to birth. I think it’s important to share evidence based information so that each mom can make an informed decision about the type of birth she desires. No woman should ever feel pressured into unwanted interventions and I believe that every mom should be supported in her own decisions regarding her labor.
